The real hotel, which became the model of the COD: MW2 map, is angry. Violent games are not suitable for values
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II released on October 28 by Activision (COD: MW2). This work has become a hot topic of the real landscape of Amsterdam, the Dutch capital, from the video and play tests before its release. And that realism is causing a certain problem. PC gamer etc. reported.
COD: MW2 is a sequel to the reboot version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released in 2019. The development will be in charge of the INFINITY WARD following the previous work. In the development, a new game engine has been introduced. The quality such as visuals has improved.
One of the maps of this work is Brain Self Hotel. This is thought to be a model at the Consavatorium Hotel, the finest 5-star hotel, and the beautiful graphics recreate the hotel scenery. In particular, the appearance is similar, and the symmetrical appearance and the reddish walls connecting the three buildings capture the characteristics of the Consavatrium Hotel.
On the other hand, it seems that it was not known in advance that a map modeled on the hotel would appear in COD: MW2. The hotel also says that the hotel cannot overlook the hotel being shattered by the battle of special unit members. Roy Tomas sen, the manager of the Consavatrium Hotel, has commented on the local Dutch newsprint. According to him, the fact that the Consavatrium Hotel is a model of COD: MW2 is an incredible situation for the hotel. He emphasizes that the hotel does not support games that seem to promote violence. He stated that this work did not reflect the hotel's values (Kernwaarden), but was grieving the independence of the hotel. The hotel is currently considering response.
In the past, there are similar cases in which modeling a real building was a problem. For example, in RESISTANCE-Day of Humanity released by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2006, the Manchester Cathedral was used as a shooting battle in the game. The British Church claims that Sony used images inside the cathedral without the appropriate permission. The British Church requested Sony to apologize and suspend the game sales, and demanded a donation to the elimination of gun crimes. On the other hand, the Sony side only apologized (Router). In this case, Sony investigated all the permissions needed for gaming and claimed that he had obtained permission.
Most recently, the developer of a survival game based on IKEA reported that IKEA had been asked to change in-game elements (related article). In-game use of real buildings and stores is sometimes seen by managers and right holders. The whereabouts of such cases, including the Consavatrium Hotel, will continue to attract attention.
